Dedicated children’s author and educator Andrea M. Page (Hunkpapa Lakota) is a citizen of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. “Sioux Code Talkers of World War II” and “Who Was Wilma Mankiller?” are among her books that highlight Native American history. Andrea also develops educational resources, highlighting Native authors’ new books which use authentic storytelling to inspire young people. As a Highlights Foundation instructor, she enthusiastically teaches storytelling and connects with fellow writers.
Children’s literature is Andrea’s career focus. With over 24 educator guides and her work with We Need Diverse Books (WNDB), she actively contributes to the literary community. A lifelong learner, she is fueled by her passion for reading, writing, and honing her storytelling skills.
Andrea and her husband reside in Rochester, New York.
Long Bio
Andrea M. Page is a celebrated children’s author, educator, and speaker. Andrea, a proud Hunkpapa Lakota, has significantly contributed to children’s literature through impactful storytelling and insightful educational materials.
In 2017, Andrea debuted with “Sioux Code Talkers of World War II” (Pelican/Arcadia Publishing), a compelling story about seven Native American Code Talkers’ heroism in the Pacific Theater. Continuing her work to amplify underrepresented voices, her second book, “Who Was Wilma Mankiller?” (2025, Penguin Workshop), details the remarkable life of the first woman to lead the Cherokee Nation.
In addition to her published works, Andrea is a prolific writer of educator guides and a compiler of Native-created book lists for teachers and librarians. As an instructor at the Highlights Foundation, she mentors aspiring writers and shares her expertise. Today, she’s an author of inspiring stories highlighting courage, fortitude, generosity, and perseverance. She hopes to keep sharing stories that will encourage people to make our world a better place.
Andrea’s involvement in the literary community is extensive. She is a longtime member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). Her leadership skills and enthusiasm for children’s literature are clear in her service as a former Co-President of the Rochester Area Children’s Writers & Illustrators (RACWI) and former Board member of the Children’s Literature Assembly (CLA) of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). A lifelong learner, Andrea continues to hone her craft and connect with authors and young readers alike.
Andrea Page continues to inspire and educate, making lasting contributions in the world of children’s literature. She and her husband call Rochester, NY home.
